Mothman
Assembled and painted wooden figure (about 7 ½ x 11 ½" high overall) depicts the "flying monster" that plagued the Point Pleasant, West Virginia, area for two years, beginning in November 1966.
Related by a book (1975) and movie (2002) of the same title, The Mothman Prophecies, the tale allegedly involved alien contact, Men in Black, a tragic bridge collapse, and other elements.
Investigation shows that the Mothman sightings were probably excitable people's nightime misperceptions of barred owls, whose strong red eyeshine was responsible for the creatures reported "glowing" eyes. The initial sightings were at a wildlife sanctuary where barred owls are common.
