Chupacabra

According to the Cox News Service (April 1996), "The creature is supposedly part space alien, part vampire and part reptile, with long sharp claws, bulging eyes and a Dracula-like taste for sucking blood from neck bites." The myth originated in Puerto Rico and spread to Mexico and the United States largely through Latino media. Alleged Chupacabra attacks on chickens, goats, and other animals have thus far been shown to have been due to wild dogs and possibly other predators. Claims that the animals were drained of blood were shown to be false. (See Joe Nickell, "The 'Goatsucker' Attack," chapter 4 of The Mystery Chronicles, Lexington, Ky.: The University Press of Kentucky, 2004, pp. 28-30.)
