Weeping Madonna

Pictured is a postcard of the Madonna of Civitavecchia, Italy (a port city north of Rome). On February 2, 1995, an electrician claimed that his garden statue was crying tears of blood. Reports stated that the substance had been tested and was genuine human blood, and also claimed that x-rays of the statue revealed "no trace of trick devices."

In fact, the blood on the statue of the Virgin was male and had obviously been smeared on, as from a cut finger. Nevertheless, one newspaper reported, "devotions have not been interrupted." (Gift of George Ries.)
