Fossilized Worker Ants

Preserved worker ants are inclusions in fossil amber some 23-30 million years old. The insect was trapped in resin from the now-extinct Hymenea Protera tree which time has transformed into this non-mineral gemstone material. This piece of amber is approximately 13/16" long.
