Discovering a four-leaf clover has long been believed to bring good luck. The four leaflets supposedly represent wealth, fame, good health, and a faithful lover as expressed in this rhyme:

One leaf for fame, one leaf for wealth,
One leaf for a faithful lover,
And one leaf to bring glorious health-
All are in the four-leaf clover.

Carrying a four-leaf clover is said to ward off evil spirits, while dreaming of one supposedly foretells a successful marriage.
