Traditional Oriental guardian figures were often placed on either side of entrances, especially to religious sites.

This matched pair (althought cast in resin for the western market) represents the conventional figures: a male (on the left, signified by an orb under his paw) and a female (with a pup under hers). Each about 4¼ inches high.
